Our Work With

Skin Connect

Skin Connect is an ethnic-based skincare brand, led by a local dermatologist, Dr Nokubonga Khoza. The brand was developed in order to address a niche market, providing tailored skincare solutions for people of colour. The Skin Connect brand fosters self-confidence and human connection by educating and empowering individuals to care for their skin.

The Challenge

The challenge was to establish a new brand that would encapsulate a sense of community, connection and care. In addition to being tasked with creating the Skin Connect brand identity, we needed to position the brand in the South African skincare market.

The Solution

Together with Dr. Khoza, we began workshopping the essence of Skin Connect, digging into the vision and goals. Addressing each brand touchpoint, we gradually began developing the brand identity. We designed a logo that portrayed the nuanced benefits of the brand, that is connection, community, and care. To differentiate Skin Connect, we used Recoleta, a modern serif typeface that combines soft and gentle shapes to create a nostalgic, yet modern look and feel. Additionally, we selected an earthy colour palette composed of neutral aqua and sand hues, contrasted by a deep and fiery clay to convey a natural and grounded appearance.

Following this, we began designing and developing a user and future-friendly website. The Skin Connect website was carefully considered to serve as the brand’s central platform to inform users on the services and products provided, as well as to educate them on skincare-specific content.

In addition, we had designed a packaging concept that incorporated the distinct beauty and facial features of ethnic skin, setting the Skin Connect brand apart from the rest.
